Surprise addition to England squad: Antonio?
since Welbeck is out. Antonio covers at least two positions. Better attacking right-back than Walker, also covers right-wing and possibly centre-right.

Won't happen. Hodgson would rather have Phil Jones at right back, and Walcott on the wing.

Not tippy tappy enough for the idiot Hodgson

I have had a Sneaky suspicion that is why bilic has persevered with him at right back

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Antonio is a good call to take up a place left vacant by the injured Welbeck. He would not be a direct replacement but as a gap is left in the squad for someone who is versatile Antonio could fit the bill.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Not so far fetched I reckon. Hes not the best defensive fullback but nor is Walker, and Antonio is better going forward. Always looks like he might score, good in the air, very quick, good on wing and never stops running.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
He's a bit unco on the ball, but he's so effective. Amazing engine, pace to burn, strong, great in the air and doesn't mind taking people on.

And unbelievably effective.

What's not to like about a player like that?

Baggins 1:36 Thu May 12
Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Absolutely cannot go as a right back.

As a forward or wide player though? Yeah, why not. Raw but very very effective.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
What like playing sick air at left wing to give him the best chance of making 2002?

He should be in the squad anyway with nobes. Ironically I'd have thought Tomkins would've had a small chance had he continued at right back as England's defence is a woeful list of over rated and/or hasbeens

it's a scary thought that jagielka could start games in the summer, he's so poor

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Currently the most effective ...in form English Right sided attacker...

Should definitely be in the squad .,,, ahead of Sterling...Walcott...

European defenders will be completely unnerved by his pace...power...energy...unconventional play...and can score with head and both feet...

A surprise package at the Euros...

But too controversial for Mr Barn Owl Hodgson...\\

Oh for an Alf Ramsey style England Manager...

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Sniper...you meant Sinclair I assume...

Same as Joe Cole playing left wing to get in the England team...instead of his better more effective position in the middle...

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
i think Hodgson has totally overlooked him tbh. I think any of Antonio, cresswell, Carroll and yes maybe even Noble deserve a call up.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
He won't go.
I think he has been immense, on a par with Payet and more consistent. He's made a few mistakes but any of our front 6 being asked to play there would if not more.
Scores goals for fun. Would of scored even more if we had nt played him at right back.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Hodgson will put Townsend in the team ahead of him.
A couple of good games for Newcastle ad he's now a certainty, despite them getting relegated. A parrell being Shelvey playing for England.

Who was it on here who wanted Shelvey ahead of Noble?

Probably more chance of me being in the squad.

Fordy, obviously

And a couple of others

I expect old Roy thinks with a name like Antonio he is Brazilian or Spanish, so no he won’t be in the England squad.

Roy Hodgson will not pick any West Ham players.

He doesn't like us.

Re: SUPRISE ADITION TO ENGLAND SQUAD: ANTONIO?
Someone on the match thread said they sat near Hodgson and that he left when Man Utd scored their second.
Not sure where he needed to be first thing Wed morning.

Antonio hasn't been mentioned at all so has no chance I think.
Funnily enough he has relied heavily on Welbeck to play a wide role and get up and back and assist the defence and Antonio has performed that better than anyone.
